Opportunities to New Sociologies: Childhood Sociology As A Discipline
Keywords:
Child, childhood, new paradigm, sociology of childhoodAbstract
It is known that sociology has an adult and male-centered understanding of the founding sociologists as a young discipline that has just begun to emerge in the 19th century. The long-term adult and male-centered sociological understanding was severely shaken by feminism. In fact, feminism as a serious objection to sociological understanding under male domination has become a discipline on its own. Recently, the notion of dominating adult-centered sociology has been seriously discussed. This idea, developed as a new approach to childhood sociology, has matured under the leadership of a group of British sociologists. Criticizing an adult-centered approach to sociology as an adult, sociologists have argued that children play an active role in building social change and social structure by objecting to an adult-centered approach. The aim of this study is to reveal the sociological possibilities of childhood sociology as a new discipline. In this study, child, childhood and childhood concepts are handled with a critical approach. Later, in sociology, it is emphasized that children are not actively involved for years. Finally, basic paradigms of childhood sociology and discipline are given.
