Syrian Refugee Children in Turkish Printed Media

Abstract

This study intends to reveal how and in which themes do the Syrian children under temporary protection are reported in the news within local, regional and national printed media. The news on Syrian refugee children appeared in the Turkish local, regional, national and international printed media between September 8, 2016 and September 8, 2017 were examined. Sample of the study was consisted of 8517 news, between September 8, 2016 and September 8, 2017, in which the words Syrian, refugee, asylum-seeker and child are mentioned. 6521 of the 8517 news are not directly related to children, however only 1996 news of them are. Aforementioned news were categorized and coded via atlas.ti programme and certain categories and themes were formed with the coding procedure.
