Because of the possible damage to mental and physical health adolescent sexual abuse is an important deal. There are some studies pointing out that sexual abuse of this age is disregarded and ignored in all over the world as well as in our country. In this regard, it was aimed to determine the behaviors and attitude of physicians experiencing in adolescents and to identify the lacking issues for the future educations.
This is a self-report questionnaire study with a form filled by volunteers. These questionnaires were fillied by 120 physicians who were perfoming for the adolescent age group. To the physicians definitions relating to adolescent sexual abuse, forensic responsibility, risk factors for abuse, factors that increase the risk of infection and infection prophylaxis were asked with a 46-item questionnaire.
It was determined that 62.5% of them were pediatricians, 23.3% of them were family pysicians, 10,8% of them were emergency physicians, pediatric surgeons and gynecologist were 1,7%. The physicians that evaluated 55% (n=66) of them were female, 45% (n=54) of them were men with an average age of 32.4±7.7. Regarding all the questionary consisting the basic terminology and medical management with a point >70, success rate was detected 73.7% (n = 88). To the question about the definition of sexual harassment, 22.5% (n=27) of the physicians responded with an accurate correct answer.
In our study, it was determined that particularly in forensic terminology and in some parts of the medical management (HIV, postcoital contraception) are lacking. Therefore, the educations are essential for the lacking subjects about the management of adolescent sexual assault and to intensify the attention to this issue.
