Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by restricted-repetitive behaviors with deficits in social communication and interaction. Considering that every year the increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism, the number of people related to autism who the caregivers, teachers and relatives of these children constitute an important part of the society. The low knowledge and awareness of the society about autism may cause these children to be stigmatized and thus negatively affected psychologically. Different communication styles and repetitive movements of children and adolescents with autism are some of the important factors that cause them to be stigmatized. Recognizing children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder at an early age and making appropriate interventions are of great importance in terms of their adaptation to society. In this review, it is aimed to deal with all aspects of stigmatization in children and adolescents with autism in the light of recent studies and to provide guidance on what kind of interventions can be made by raising awareness.
