This comprehensively examines the individual, social, and economic dimensions of the disengagement of young people with NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) status from education and employment. The article examines the definition and classification of NEET, the reasons why young people disengage from education and employment, the psychosocial and academic consequences of this situation, and intervention and policy recommendations. Analyses specific to Turkey reveal that the country has the highest NEET rate among EU countries, posing serious risks to young people's personal development potential and societal development. The literature demonstrates that NEET youth are not only disengaged from economic productivity but also face multidimensional negative impacts such as psychosocial vulnerability, social exclusion, and academic losses. Therefore, the article emphasizes that effective policies and interventions should not be limited to education and employment support, but should be developed through holistic approaches that include psychosocial support, social inclusion, and local government collaboration. It also highlights the importance of sustainable, inclusive, and multi-actor strategies that support the integration of young people into the labor market and the education system. The article demonstrates that accurately identifying the determinants and risk factors of NEET youth provides guidance for policy makers and practitioners and highlights the need for comprehensive future research.
