Abstract

Thought, feeling, dream and events are written in childish language in the framework of a simpler fiction for educational purpose in the books prepared for children. For recent years It has been asserted that the books which are thought to be the products of adult literature should be read by children in the scope of values education. “Safahat” important in literature takes place among the books which can be evaluated in this context.

The purpose of the study is to discuss how to make a story of Mehmet Akif’s work named “Safahat” as regards the criteria of child literature. Moreover, the study has the purpose of stating Mehmet Akif’s perspective on education, his thoughts on childhood and youth and his manner of narration. What should be done in order to enhance readability of Safahat in the scope of child literature is classified at seven titles such as transition among literary types, simplification, determination of main word existance, idetification of subjects and themes, editing and limning. Furthermore, Mehmet Akif’s mentioning such story elements as event, place, time, subject, fiction, location, etc. in his poems and his making a detailed description and prefering a factual expression show his poems are appropriate to transition among literary types.
